Lessons from the Top - Amy Fox shares her insight on Accounting, Wellness, and Working Smarter
I’ve always believed that blending a little wellness with a lot of hustle will take you far in any career, and my chat with Amy Fox, founder of Goldi Group, proved exactly that.
Amy’s journey into accounting was accidental. A commerce degree, a surprise love for her first accounting subject, and a quick escape from public practice into commercial.
But it turned into much more. Amy built her expertise in profitability at big name companies like Peters Ice Cream, before taking a leap that couldn’t be further from the Big 4 - launching her own wellness business.
“Accounting helped me so much. I knew my break even point. I knew how to set daily revenue targets. Most small business owners didn’t even think that way".
After selling that business and taking time off, Amy began offering profitability consulting. That snowballed into Goldi Group - a team of three (and growing), delivering tax, bookkeeping, and strategic CFO services.
What makes them different?
They work part-time. They finish at 3pm. And clients love it.
“There’s no such thing as an accounting emergency. We just make sure payroll’s done by noon.”
Her advice for junior accountants?
Say yes more often
Don’t fake what you don’t know - ask for help
Build strong client relationships - soft skills are everything
Be open to pivots: accounting is a launchpad, not a trap
Amy’s story is a powerful sentiment that accounting isn’t just a job. It’s a superpower. And if you use it right, you can build a career (and a life) completely on your terms.
